Behind the scenes

This text was born from the reflection that truth should never be taken for granted. It requires constant vigilance and, at times, the courage to look elsewhere when everyone else is looking in the same direction.

The image of the sunflower came naturally. This flower follows the sun from morning to evening, as if obeying it without question. In the text, I imagined one of these sunflowers daring, one day, to turn its head in another direction. That simple gesture becomes an act of resistance and freedom.

The sunflower is also a flower deeply associated with Ukraine, almost part of its national landscape.

In my illustration, I used this symbol with a dominance of yellow and blue, the colors of the Ukrainian flag. The sunflower embodies here “the spirit of truth”: the one who seeks the light differently, without renouncing freedom.

Echoes of the world

The text is written in Ukrainian, a Slavic language spoken by around 40 million people, mainly in Ukraine. It belongs to the same family as Russian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Bulgarian, and Serbian.

Ukrainian is written using the Cyrillic alphabet, but it includes specific letters such as ї, є, or і, which are not found in Russian.

The language also contains a high proportion of vowels, giving it a particularly melodic quality, as in the word соняхів (so-nyah-khiv), which means “sunflowers.” This musicality is one of the reasons why Ukrainian is often considered one of the most melodic Slavic languages.

And you, when everyone is looking in the same direction, do you have the courage to turn your head elsewhere?
