Behind the scenes
I made several trips to the heart of the United States, particularly between Kansas and Missouri, mainly for professional reasons. This vast Midwestern region allowed me to discover a very authentic side of American culture.
In Kansas City, jazz seems to have permeated the city for a long time. It sometimes feels as if the city could start swinging at any moment.
I also became interested in sports bars, places where people gather to watch a game, talk, and share a moment over a beer.
In this region, often swept by winds and tornadoes, I imagined in this text another kind of storm: that of memory, when it blurs or slips away under the pressure of stress.
The text was born from the intersection of these different images.
Echoes of the world
In the text, the chant “Go Chiefs!” refers to Kansas City’s American football team, the Kansas City Chiefs. In the United States, supporting a local team is part of everyday culture. Games become shared experiences, bringing people together in stadiums, at home, or in sports bars.
These bars are more than just places to watch a game. They are social spaces where people gather, react together, and celebrate or suffer as a group.
In this context, sport becomes a way of creating connection and belonging, even among strangers.
And you, what words or images immediately come to mind when you think about your own region?
