Behind the scenes

This text was born from the meeting of two influences.

The first is Chicago, the Windy City. To me, it embodies a certain idea of the American dream: extraordinary architecture, boundless energy, and the feeling that anything is possible.

The second is the blues-a music born of pain that transforms fragility into strength. The meeting of the two took place in a legendary club: Buddy Guy’s. There, I was struck by the emotion of a performance, especially by an older musician who had everyone on their feet.

Afterward, I sat down and wrote a few words, sketching a quick drawing, focusing on the sunglasses, the rings, and of course the guitar. Later, these fragments became both a musical text and an illustration. Chicago and the blues had found a lasting harmony in my mind.

Echoes of the world

To me, English has a musicality of its own. Its short, often stressed words become notes. I wanted to amplify this feeling in this lyrical text, especially with swift, shrewd, sleek. Three brief, sharp syllables-almost percussive.

Through repetition – Can’t you see, see -I sought to recreate a blues rhythm, while interjections (Yeah! Woo!) echo like a drumbeat. And then there are those three simple words that are enough to establish both rhythm and place: Sweet Home Chicago.

Within this American setting, a French expression I love surfaces: c’est la vie – a reminder that the music of languages transcends borders.
